Description:
It's all about the tails! Manx have a dominant tailless gene, so a Manx kitten
can be born with any of the following: full tail, short tail, rumpy riser
(a small rise instead of a tail), or rumpies (no tail at all).
The Manx is also a very round cat. It is said
that it can be drawn in circles, and being tailless makes it
appear that much rounder.
Manx are also very powerful jumpers, due to their
strong hind quarters, and will often be found perched in the
highest point in a room. Very playful they are a loyal cat
and bond with their owners. Thus the transition of being brought
to a new home can often be difficult.
A Manx can be short haired or longhaired. In
the past the longhaired version was called the Cymric. The
only difference between as shorthair and a longhair is the
length of the coat.
One of the myths of this breed is that they became
tailless when Noah shut the tail of one in the Ark's door. Think Twice If: You
are not sure if you want a furever pet. They really do best
in one home.
Hereditary
Problems: Manx Syndrome - The mutation
of the spine that causes the tailessness. This generally
only occurs when rumpies are bread to rumpies.
